Mindful Photography Walk at Governor's Island + Poetry Fest (co-ed & open to all!)

  • Governor's Island Governors Island New York, NY, 11231 United States (map)

Join us on Sunday, July 13th for a soulful day of creativity, connection, and inspiration on Governors Island. This will be an opportunity to experience the island in a whole new light, capturing it through the lens of your phone!

Back by popular demand, we’re partnering for a second time with professional photographer Carey Kirkella, whose immersive L.E.N.S. Method™ Workshop (Light, Empathy, Now & Storytelling) offers more than just technical tips—it’s a chance to reconnect with yourself through the act of seeing.

After a quick and picturesque ferry ride across the river, Carey will share her unique creative photography process, and we will practice getting in touch with our senses in nature, also getting into a creative flow state through making photos about the energy states that nature represents, such as grounding and flow.

During and after this practice, you'll be inspired to see the camera in your phone as a powerful self reflection tool, to connect with your creativity, and to see the beauty of your everyday surroundings. No prior photography experience or equipment is necessary.

What You Will Gain from Attending:

  • Learn a new, lifelong skill

  • Connect more deeply to yourself and your creativity

  • Be a part of a growing community of art-full women

  • Engage with nature and connect more deeply to the world around you

  • Leave feeling inspired, connected and empowered to share your photographic voice.

After the workshop, you’ll have the option to join fellow creatives for a vibrant group lunch at Island Oyster, soaking in waterfront views and conversation.

Finally, we’ll head to picturesque Nolan Park and dive into the NYC Poetry Festival—an enchanting mix of live readings, installations, and artistic surprises.

This day is about more than making images—it’s about making space for inspiration, connection, and joy while also exploring one of NYC’s top summer attractions and connecting with new & old friends along the way.
